Healthy Herbal Plants

Welcome to Healthy Herbal Plants,

Healthy Herbal Plants have been used for centuries to cure aches and pains and illnesses, such as cancer, Alzheimer’s, arthritis, high blood pressure, digestive disorders, headaches, menstrual cramps, stress, anxiety, sleep disorders and colds and flu . Hundreds of these remedies have survived the test of time and are still used today. In fact, many of our modern medicines are derived from plants.

For instance, did you know that modern aspirin got it’s beginnings from the pain dulling properties in the bark of the white birch tree?   A poultice could be made  by steeping shredded birch bark in boiling water and then applying it to the painful area. Today most health food stores sell a birch bark capsule to take for pain and it doesn’t have the side effects of aspirin.

The definition of herb is:
Culinary and medicinal plant:  a low growing aromatic plant used fresh or dried for seasoning, for it’s medicinal properties, or in perfumes.

We will use the term, healthy herbal plants, rather loosely to include any plant material that has healing qualities, preventative qualities or pain relieving qualities.

Imagine, sitting by the fire on a cold, stormy day, sipping fragrant herbal tea, such as chamomile, to enhance your immune system and ward off a cold or flu. Chamomile is also well known as a sleep aid and stress reliever. Just steep ½ to 1 teaspoon of dried chamomile flower  in one cup boiling water for 6 to 8 minutes. Strain, discarding flowers and sip at bedtime or anytime you’re feeling stressed.

Most healthy herbal  plants are very safe without harsh side effects. Some of them have blood thinning properties so you shouldn’t take them if you’re on certain drugs. If you’re allergic to certain flowers and plants such as ragweed be careful. It’s always a good idea to talk to your doctor if you have concerns.

Healthy herbal plants can be used extensively  in the prevention and treatment of cancer and to combat side effects from harsh treatments like chemotherapy and radiation. Red clover, rosemary, garlic, burdock root , violets, dandelions, Echinacea, and catnip are just a few of the healthy herbal plants used in the treatment and prevention of cancer. Be sure to talk to your oncologist as some healthy herbal plants can interact with chemo causing it to be less effective.

Taking carotene before radiation therapy  can prevent tissue damage. Try drinking teas made from healthy herbal plants  high in carotene, such as dandelion, violets and stinging nettles.

Milk thistle can help maintain a strong, healthy liver which is very important when you are taking chemotherapy treatment.

Because of it’s immune enhancing qualities, Echinacea can enhance the function of white blood cells which are usually drastically reduced during chemotherapy treatments.

Catnip, chamomile and red raspberry can help fight off nausea after chemotherapy.

A compress made from calendula or comfrey and applied externally to surgical wounds can speed the healing process and reduce scaring.
